1. We have good news to share with you. This Sunday, February 28th, at 11am outdoor Mass, we will welcome to our community Deacon Gerardo Toscano who last January was ordained to transitional Diaconate by Bishop Robert Barron in Los Angeles. Deacon Gerardo belongs to a religious community called “Josephite Fathers” dedicated to “cultivate a spirit of family among the young, to educate and to form”.  He came to Berkeley to study Theology at the Dominican School and is staying with Salesian Fathers.

We are so blessed to have Deacon Gerardo serving our parish and we welcome him with open arms. He will stay in the Bay Area until the end of May. Please read his comprehensive and beautiful bio printed in the attached bulletin.
2. We continue our Lenten journey together. As a reminder, only Sunday Mass at 11am is celebrated outdoors. The other Masses, Saturday vigil at 5pm, Sunday Mass at 9am and daily Mass at 11am are inside the church.
3. This coming Friday, March 5th, is First Friday of the month and Mass will be celebrated at 11am. Immediately after Mass, we will pray the Stations of the Cross. Next day is First Saturday of the month. Our morning Mass will be at 11am.
4. Please remember to mark your calendar for our Parish Lenten Reconciliation Service on Friday, March 26th at 7pm.
We thank you for your journey with us and your heartfelt support of our parish.
Please stay safe!

Just a quick reminder that starting this coming weekend, February 20-21, our Mass schedule will be as follows:

– Vigil Mass on Saturday will be moved back to 5:00 PM and it will be celebrated inside the church with overflow in the parish hall (zooming will be available).

Confessions will be moved to 4:00PM in Adoration Chapel.

–  On Sunday, we will have 2 Masses. First at 9:00AM inside the church and the second at 11:00 AM outdoors only (with zooming).  At 11:00AM outdoor Mass there will be a limited number of seats available inside the parish hall.

– Daily indoor Mass (Monday to Friday including first Saturday) will remain at 11:00AM.

During all indoor Masses, we will have some extra chairs available outside in front of the main entrance to the church.

Please inform your family members and friends about these changes.

In attachment, you will find our electronic bulletin.

Thank you and please stay safe!

1. This Saturday, February 13th, our vigil Mass will STILL be celebrated at 3PM outdoors with confessions at 2-2:45pm in the Adoration Chapel. On Sunday, February 14th, we will have an 11am Mass also outdoors.

A big change in our Mass schedule will come a week from now (February 20-21) and it will be as follows:

– Vigil on Saturday will be moved back to 5:00 PM and it will be celebrated inside the church with overflow to the parish hall. Confessions will be moved to 4:00PM in the Adoration Chapel.

– We will leave our Sunday Mass at 11:00 AM outdoors at least for some time, so those who are not ready to pray indoors yet will have a choice to participate in the Holy Eucharist outside.

– Additionally, we will have another Mass at 9:00 AM on Sunday that will be celebrated indoors.

– Daily indoor Mass will remain at 11:00AM.

During all indoor Masses, there will be a possibility of sitting outside in front of the main entrance to the church.

2. This coming Wednesday, February 17th is already Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Masses with a sprinkling of ashes will be celebrated at 11:00AM and at 7:00PM inside the church with a possibility of sitting outside in front of the main entrance to the church.

3. During Lent, each Friday morning after 11:00 AM Mass, we will have Stations of the Cross inside the church. There will be NO Stations of the Cross in the evening.

4. If you would like to join a Lenten Virtual Retreat with a Consecration to Mary, our Blessed Mother, please send an email to Rosemary Medeiros marysmantleretreat2021@gmail.com or call at 510-909-9216. This retreat begins on Ash Wednesday.

5. Last year, more than 7,000 people from all over of the diocese made their contributions to the Bishop’s Appeal. About 70 families and individuals from our parish (less than 1/3rd of our parish population) have taken a heavy burden to reach our parish goal. We thank them for their sacrifice and generosity. For comparison, in 2019, a 100 of our households supported Bishop’s Appeal and it was much easier to reach the same goal. Hopefully, this year we will have much broader participation of our parish community. Our parish goal remains the same as last year, 9,800 dollars.

In attachment, you will find a special message from our Bishop Michael Barber regarding 2021 Bishop’s Appeal that begins this weekend in our Diocese.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of our parish and ministries of our Diocese.

We continue our journey of faith through this pandemic asking God and His Blessed Mother for the Divine protection.

This coming Thursday, February 11th is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes. Outdoor Mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM. 30 minutes before Mass we will begin a recitation of the Holy Rosary for the sick.

Pope St. John Paul II designated February 11th as World Day of the Sick. It is a special time of prayers and sharing, of offering one’s suffering for the good of the Church and of reminding us to see in our sick brothers and sisters the face of the Christ who, by suffering, dying, and rising, achieved the salvation of the humankind.

Lenten Season is approaching quickly. In one week and half, we will celebrate Ash Wednesday. Since, there is no opportunity to have any indoor retreats, we recommend virtual activities. One of them is a “LENTEN CONSECRATION VIRTUAL RETREAT WITH MARY” led by Rosemary Medeiros.

If you or someone you know would like to join this retreat, please contact Rosemary Medeiros directly. Her e-mail and more information about this retreat are printed on a special page of this weekend’s Electronic Bulletin. You can also call our parish office.

You can still receive your statement for 2020 financial contributions to our church. Please approach Evelyn Bonito after Mass or call our parish office. You may also send your request by e-mail or regular mail. Thank you for your continued support of our parish.

Please be safe,

Our Lady of Good Counsel Team
